Snapchat Sunshine Coast GeofilterA Geofilter is an Image overlay found in Snapchat. The App’s permissions access your location via the GPS and data in your phone determining your location. Snapchat has many landmark Geofilters they have added themselves over the years. Snapchat users in Southeast Queensland may have seen the Sunshine Coast filter. This filter is only available to users who’s devices list them as being in Snapchat’s “Sunshine Coast” Geofence.

A Geofence is a virtual barrier that is used to target a specific area. The minimum requirement for a sponsored Geofilter is 20,000 square feet, which is about the average size of an office. The filters can be used for marketing in a couple of ways:

  1. Firstly you can create the filter to represent your company logo or likeness. This is a great way of building brand awareness.
  2. The second use is gaining exposure by sponsoring a local event by making a filter and running it for the event. When using such a filter a message pops up with “Sponsored by___” (Insert company’s name who paid for the filter).
