Reasons why your website isn't showing in Google search results
For those outside the web design and SEO industry it can be puzzling when you search for your business on Google and your new website doesn’t show up.
In reality, it’s normal straight after a website has been launched for it to not appear on Google. The most common explanation is that Google simply hasn’t indexed your site yet.
It can sometimes take a week or more for Google to index a new website. You can manually request your home page and other URLs for your site to be indexed via Google Search Console, where you can also submit a sitemap. While this is helpful to prompt Google, however, it doesn’t necessarily speed up the indexing process.
Whether your website is new or has been around for a while, if it’s not showing up in search results, it’s worth investigating if there are “no index” tags. These essentially tell search engines including Google not to include the site – or specific pages of a site – in search results.
What if you’re showing up on the search engine results pages (SERPs) for your brand name but not important keywords? It’s likely your website isn’t optimised. In this case, an SEO program is definitely advisable to improve your site’s meta content, keyword saturation and other factors to rank better for relevant search queries. If your market is very competitive, more extensive work will likely be required to start ranking on page one for your targeted keywords.
